21.02.2022

What Is Sun Damage Pigmentation?

There are several causes of pigmentation, however, in Australia our number one cause if the Sun. Therefore, we notice after repeated, long term UV exposure pigmentation disorders such as sunspots. These sunspots are the result of our skin producing excess melanin to protect itself and its DNA.

This type of pigmentation is typically seen in our fairer skinned clients around the 30 year ago group.

Paige Starkey, RN at The Clinic, takes us through Sun Damage Pigmentation, what it looks like and how to treat it.

Where Does Sun Damage Pigmentation Occur?

Sun Damage Pigmentation can occur anywhere on the body that exposed to the sun, including the decolletage, arms, shoulders, and the back of hands.

How To Treat Sun Damage Pigmentation

We offer several treatments that penetrate into the deeper payers of the skin for rejuvenation benefits.

IPL 'Intense Pulsed Light' uses light therapy to break down melanin in the skin, reversing pigmentation and creating a more even skin tone. IPL can be performed on the face as well as larger parts of the body exposed to sun damage, including the chest, arms and backs of the hands.

Fraxel is a non-invasive, rejuvenating laser therapy that penetrates the epidermis, targeting the deep layers of the skin for collagen remodelling, with 25% less downtime. Fraxel is our most effective treatment for pigmentation, discolouration, freckles, sun spots, age spots, acne scarring and overall rejuvenation.

What Is Post-Inflammatory Hyper Pigmentation?

Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation occurs after any sort of injury or trauma on the skin, it is most commonly seen in clients who 'pick' at their pimples. This type of Pigmentation shows up as either red or brown, dependent on your skin tone. This type of pigmentation is typically seen in our fairer skinned clients around the 30 year ago group.

Paige Starkey, RN at The Clinic, takes us through Post-Inflammatory HyperPigmentation, what it looks like and how to treat it.

How To Treat It?

It is essential that with Post-Inflammatory HyperPigmentation that you treat the underlying cause first, which in most cases is acne. Our most effective treatments for acne are Chemical Face Peels, particularly the Timeless Retinol Peel and Detox Problem Skin Peel. Once the acne has cleared, we can then incorporate more intense rejuvenation treatments such as IPL Light Therapy or Fraxel to target the scarring and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
