Lip enhancement involves skillfully deciding on locations and volumes to be used in your lips to achieve a particular shape. Our goal for lip enhancement is to beautify the client, augment the lips, creating a more defined smile, creating symmetry and softening the face.
The treatment experience
- Lip enhancement uses prescription product, so first we conduct a medical consent.
- The nurse will map out the pre-determined areas of your lips to be treated.
- The injections are administered and cold packs are applied immediately afterwards.

Pre and post care
Much of the difference you see after your lip enhancement will be due to mild swelling; the real results become evident after 3-5 days. There is no downtime and you will be able to wear makeup and return to work immediately after your appointment.
There is no downtime required for a lip enhancement and you can resume normal activities immediately. However you should avoid the following for 24 hours:
- Strenuous exercise
- Consumption of alcohol
It is also recommended to avoid the following for two weeks:
- Extended exposure to sun or uv light
- Extended exposure to heat or freezing temperatures
Exposure to any of the above may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching. If you have swelling, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period to help with discomfort.
We always recommend the use of sunscreen to prevent sun damage to the skin. Sunscreen with SPF 30 or above should be used daily. If you are under the sun for prolonged periods of time, sunscreen needs to be reapplied at least once every two hours.
Common questions
Lip enhancement can give you a more defined smile; prevent lipstick bleeding; enhance pout; it can turn the corners of the mouth upwards to create a happier expression; and it can soften the appearance of the face.
We can create a range of results, the most popular being:
- An enhanced 'Cupid's Bow'
- A stronger border around the edge of your lips
- Fuller lips, softened vertical upper lip lines
- Balance lower third of the face
- Create symmetry
We favour low-risk products in our lip enhancement procedures, however on rare occasion side effects can include:
- Redness, itching or swelling.
- Minor bruising, which can last between 2 and 10 days.
Additionally, if you have lip enhancement performed by a non-skilled technician, you run the risk of getting an uneven result, disproportionate lips or hard lumps. Some people are prone to more serious side effects; however at The Clinic we conduct extensive background checks and complete a full medical history.
- Allergic reactions to either the anaesthetic used to numb the lips or the substance itself.
- Bleeding.
- Some systemic conditions like diabetes, lupus, clotting problems and infections will cause slow healing.
If you have recurrent cold sores, a facial nerve disorder or severe hypertension, lip enhancement may not be your best solution. Talk to us about how we may still be able to fulfill your cosmetic aims at your initial consultation.
We do not perform Lip Enhancements during pregnancy or when breastfeeding.
A single treatment every 9-12 months is needed to maintain results.
There are many nerve endings in your lips so local anaesthesia is always recommended for a lip enhancement procedure. Without local anaesthesia, we would rate the pain at around 3/10. Pain is transient.
